Perpetual Birthday Calendar

Finally! Five minutes to sit, relax and show you a fun perpetual calendar that I made for my family. Both my husband and I are from large families, and every year I make a goal (that I have broken every year!) to remember all the birthdays. So, to try to help with that, I came up with this perpetual calendar for my kitchen.
The best part about this calendar is that I will see it everyday so I will have no excuses for not remembering a family member's birthday!

I love the line of paper from Stampin' Up that I used...it is called Patio Party

Gotta have tulle in the project somewhere!

I started this project out with a 12x12 wood frame that I painted white. I then made a scrapbook page for the background of the calendar. Super easy! Yes, that is a dinner doily!

I then took a standard clip-board and cut the length down so it would measure 9x9 inches. I decorated the clip-board with coordinating papers and ribbon.

I printed out each month and mounted the months onto colored card stock. I cut these to measure 8x8 inches.

Then, I went through each month and added the birthdays and anniversary's

I made a couple of banners and added them to the frame. Once all that was done, I put the background paper in the frame, hot glued the clipboard to that paper and added the banners and I was done!

And that's it... super easy and fun! It definitely adds a bit of color to a dark corner in my kitchen!

Happy Sunday!

July Fencepost Sign

It's that time! Time for the Crafty Girls to make next month's fencepost sign. I will admit, I am a bit behind on getting ready for the workshop in three days...but I am so ready for a fun day!

So, here is the fencepost sign that the Crafty Girls will make:
Very Patriotic for July!
I love how the three stars are layered and make it three dimensional
I think that the AMERICA in the bottom corner balances it out
I think this month's sign is perfect for display in July!
This was June's sign
And, this was May's sign.

Have a great Thursday!

Firecracker Time!

Oh my goodness! I cannot believe I have not been on my computer for a full week! This has been one busy week! My daughter is graduating from High School on Tuesday and we held her graduation party yesterday. So, it has been a week of cleaning and planning. It was a great time and I am very proud of my daughter!

This afternoon after church I came home and had every intention to take a nap. But then my scrap room called my name! This is what I came up with:
A fun and creative way to make firecrackers!
I love the thick wire coming out of the top of the firecracker.
I love the thicker wire mixed in with the skinny red wire.

I love anything patriotic, and this has to be one of my new favorite decorations for the the 4th of July!

Happy Monday!

I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag

Before I headed off to bed, I wanted to share with you a cute little block set that I made up.  I love anything patriotic and I love how this turned out!
This cute block set is made with one 3 x 4 inch block, two 11 x 1 inch and three 7.5 x 1 inch blocks.
I added assorted patriotic papers, making sure each one was different.
I added a pleated star, flower and star punch as well as button and twine to the "star" block.
I like how doing that, it added some dimension to the block.
I guess if you didn't want it to look so much like a flag, you could separate the pieces. I like it most like a flag!
Then using several different fonts I added the Pledge of Allegiance to the blocks. This is going to be a great addition to my patriotic decorating!

Have a great weekend!

Monthly Post & Sign

At the Crafty Girls Workshops that are held once a month, we started making signs for a post that is available at the workshop. The idea is to make a new sign for each month of the year. Last month this is the sign we made:
I decided to have the first sign say SPRING, just in case someone misses a month, they can use the same sign for a couple of months.
I really like the first sign.
The post is over 4 feet tall and really adds a lot of fun to a front porch.
This is the June sign. The signs are about 10 inches by 10 inches. I used two different size MDF for the watermelon. I also used a fun green vinyl for the word June.
I really like the dimension that the different size wood adds to the overall sign.

Now, off to bed...so goodnight!

P.S. Don't forget to enter the 4 giveaways! Ends Friday!

Birdie Birdie in the sky...

I just finished a really cute trio of summertime birds!
Are these little birds not just precious!
I am really into orange this year...and I like the little flower on the tail.
Gotta have twine on everything!
And let's not forget the button on every craft project!

Before I was able to work on these birds, I had a bright idea stupid idea to organize my scrapbook paper.
My workshop was a MESS! I have so much paper, it isn't even right. This is half of the paper on the table. I am going to really weed through this and get rid of what I know I will never use!
The problem is that I am a paper hoarder. I can't pick which paper to get rid of and which paper to keep! HELP!
I did it. I went from 8 of these Karen Foster paper holders down to 3 1/2 paper holders. Not too bad!
What a great feeling to downsize. Now...where to donate all that paper?

Don't forget to enter to win the four birthday prizes! Giveaway will be announced on May 13th, so you have a few days left to enter!

Feeling Patriotic

After the news tonight about Osama Bin Laden, I admit, I am not too sure how I feel. I will say, the first thought I had was actually one of fear. My fear was that all of the followers of Osama would want to hurt the United States for killing their "leader". I am confused with the fact that people have to kill each other to make it so others can live safe. Not right.

But, in the end, the overwhelming feeling that I had tonight is one of pride for my country. Our country is the most blessed land on this earth...and we are blessed to live here. That is a blessing that I will never take for granted.

So, off to my workshop I went after I had these feelings and sat for a while. Then, it hit me. It's May ~ Memorial Day! I needed to create something to have out in May to remind myself, as well as my family, of the sacrifices that others have made so I can enjoy my freedoms.

This is what I came up with:
An AMERICA block set. I love it!
I love the muted colors of the blocks.
Gotta have twine...

I like the brown blocks instead of using the traditional red, white or blue.
So, I just want to say Thank You to every one that is serving this great country, the United States of America.
Thank you to my family, friends and everyone that is brave enough to sacrifice for my family.
