My sister-in-law, Lynne is super cool. Actually, all of my sister-in-laws are super cool, I am lucky in that department. Well, Lynne and my brother are expecting their first child, a boy, Jack. My two sisters, mom and I are hosting a baby shower for her this Sunday. Only, it isn't your typical baby shower, it will be a couple's shower. The guys will play cards in the man cave and the gals will laugh and have fun upstairs. The idea is to give Lynne something personal, not necessarily baby. I live in Vegas, and the shower is taking place in Indiana and I am not going to be able to go back. So, I need to get an overnight package in the mail tomorrow! I love to sew, and bags are what I enjoy sewing the most. So, I decided to make a fun diaper bag. Not a bag with tons of pockets or gizmo's...a bag that she can just throw a couple of necessities in to run a couple of errands, and still look cute!
I started out with this satin fabric with rosettes on it....
Look how cute the little rosettes are! I love it!
Here is a better look. The fabric is a satin heather grey - super cute!
For the lining, I love to use fun fabrics. Something that when you open the bag, will make you smile! Lynne is a super high up PR Executive with Michelin Tires...so the pencil skirts and stiletto heals totally match her style.
For the outside of the bag I wanted to make a larger rosette to put on the bag. So I took extra fabric, ran a basting stitch on one of the long sides and pulled the threads to gather the fabric into a circle.
Once all the fabric was gathered, I used a zig-zag stitch to hold the center of the flower together - super fast, super easy, but big impact!
Well, the center of the flower needed a button with bling. I was unsure of what color to use, and I have several containers of buttons to pick from.
What color button should I use?
Black?
Red?
Bronze?
Blue?
Well, I went with my first choice! I picked the black button. The button actually has a bit of bling on it!
Here is the bag finished. I just love it. Heather grey is my favorite color, and I might just have a hard time getting this into the mail tomorrow!
So, whatcha think...did I pick the right color?
The lining is super fun!
The bag falls perfect across the chest onto the opposite hip of the "baby hip". I hope Lynne loves her bag!
P.S. I am really hoping that Lynne is working really hard at the Detroit Auto Show this week and isn't checking my blog! ;)
Visiting from Life As Lori, this bag is fabulous. I couldnt use it a diaper bag, but it would be a perfect tote/ purse as well. It's gorgeous!
