Featured Crafty Girl, Jill

Oh, I think I am going to love "Featured Crafty Girl" Fridays! I get a chance to search all over blog land for other crafters and feature them here on my little blog! This week's Crafty Girl is Jill! I didn't actually have to search all over blog-land for Jill...she is a close friend to my little sister, Dee. Once Dee showed me one of Jill's creations, I was sold!

So, without further ado...let me introduce you to Jill.

I got engaged August of 2007 and planned our fabulous wedding for a little over a year. It was the most amazing experience to plan and make every little detail for the special day. The hardest thing was finding the supplies. I ordered most items from California, New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey. I even flew to New York City for the weekend to do textile shopping and had a blast.

During this time I created Perfect Little Details and and started by creating fabulous shirts for my lovely bridesmaids. There were a hit!

Our goal is to help you find or make the perfect little details to make your special day amazing. Whether it be your bridal shower, bachelorette party, wedding, or the arrival of your little bundle of joy....we will do our best the make it PERFECT! We do a lot of custom work. You give us an idea or something you would like us to create and we make it happen!

Thinking Spring Bag!

I know for most of the United States, it is still winter. Well, here in Vegas it got up to 74 degrees today. That warm weather put me in the mood to make a bag for spring. When thinking about what fabric to use for this bag, I decided to go outside of my box. In general, I stay with "matchy matchy" fabrics or I stay with the same designer for the fabrics. But, today I went over to my stash and just picked what jumped out at me...

Well, these are the five fabrics that I picked. Totally looks like spring to me! On a normal day, I would pick all Heather Bailey, or all yellows, but not today.

For the style bag that I want to make, I don't use a pattern. The bag is generally a rectangle, so I just started cutting rectangles.  

I knew that I wanted to use the yellow gingham and yellow toile for the main body of the bag. But, the front and back needed a "punch". 

So, I decided on a red ruffle going across the bag where the gingham and toile meet. 

While I loved the red ruffle, it needed one more layer.  

This was the fabric that I picked for the lining of the bag. I would also use the yellow gingham for the pockets on the inside of the bag.

Ready? After cutting and sewing for a bit...this is what the fabric transformed into... 

I LOVE IT! I totally think that this bag looks like spring! I decided against a magnetic snap for the closure, and opted for cute red with white polka dot ribbon for the closure.  

I used bamboo handles and made 5 interior pockets and 2 pen or pencil pockets on the inside.

Here is a quick view of the interior fabrics.  

This bag is very sturdy. I used not only fleece interfacing, regular weight interfacing, but I also used duck cloth as an interfacing making the bag very sturdy. So sturdy in fact, I went through 3 needles just putting the top stitching on!

I use this style bag everyday for work. It is a great bag for church too! This bag is approximately 15 inches wide, 10 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide. The bamboo handles are 10 inches wide.

Super Easy Rolled Fabric Flower!

A while back I introduced you all to Ms. M. HERE and I told you that I like to dress her in pretty things, or dress her in appropriate clothing for each holiday! I had made her a necklace from really easy rolled fabric flowers.

Well, the flowers are super easy to make. So, I thought that I would put a "make shift" tutorial on how to make these really easy flowers.

Pick any fabric that you have laying around. 

Cut an inch and a half strip of the fabric. The longer the strip, the bigger the flower.

Fold the strip of fabric in half. I usually iron the fabric in place.

Ya, I know, this picture is not so good. I was trying to show that you just start rolling the fabric strip.  

Once you have rolled the fabric a few times, you start to twist your strip. 

Every so often put a dab of hot glue on the flower, just to hold the flower in place as you are twisting and turning the flower. 

The flower starts to get a bit bigger. 

As you get to the end, you will end up with a tail that is about 2 inches long.  Flip the flower over to the backside.

Dab some hot glue to the back side of the flower. 

Fold the tail to the back of the flower and press into the hot glue. Snip off the excess fabric.

That's it. Super easy! 

Once you have made a few flowers you can add them to just about anything, frames, scrapbook pages or simply put a magnet on the back of the flower and you have a great fridge magnet!

Here are a few necklaces that I made a while ago using the rolled fabric flowers. 

I like the black and aqua combo on this one! I also really like the black pearls! 

Here is another shot of the original necklace that I have on Ms. M. Notice how I put pearls and crystals on the flowers! This necklace was made with my favorite fabric, Heather Bailey.

This necklace is a lot of fun. It is made using fun fabric from Cosmo Cricket. YES, Cosmo Cricket makes fabric in the same patterns as their scrapbook paper! AWESOME! 

This little gem might just be my favorite! I love the dainty little flowers that lay nicely to the side.

A Valentine Gift for the Mister

After years of marriage, sometimes trying to think of something special to get the Mister is tough. Yes, you could get the latest and greatest gadget, but in reality, that is like the Mister getting us a blender! NO! You want to do something "special".  The Mister can buy his own gadget, just as easy as we can buy our own blender! A few years ago, I made something for my Mister for Valentine's day that he says is his favorite Valentine gift of all time. I wanted to share the idea with you. It is super easy, and super fast and best of all, super economical!

I took an 8x8 shadow frame, along with supplies that I had in my stash. Let's face it, all of us Crafty Girls have a stash! Everything in the frame are leftovers from other projects.  I started the project on an 8x8 piece of cream card stock.

The swirl at the top is a stamp with a little button glued on with a glue dot. The "I" is nothing more than a rub on letter on a square cut out, with inked edges. The word "will" is also done using rub on letters. The circle of dots is an ink stamp. 

The tag is hand cut, with an eyelet put in the top of it, running a ribbon through it. The word "Love" are rub on letters. The skeleton key was just in my stash.

The "U" is from Making Memories alphabet from years ago. The word "until" are rub on letters, with a metal frame around it, probably from Making Memories. The second tag is is made the same way as the first tag with the words "the end of" rubbed on. The plastic clock face is from Heidi Swapp from years ago. "Time" are rub on letters. The swirl is a stamp, with a button glued on with a glue dot. 

The picture and two tags are elevated using pop dots.
