Placemat Clutch

I know that I am not alone when I say "Target is HEAVEN on earth!" I love the store. I could honestly live there. Well, on one of my trips there I found some super cool placemats. But, I really didn't see a placemat, I saw a clutch. I know that sounds weird, but I instantly knew that I could make a really cute clutch out of their really cute placemat. So, that is what I did...

I made these three clutches out of the placemats. Each has their own personality.
The first one is this great turquoise blue. I added the white ribbon and made the detachable red flower, with a white fabric button, as a fun accent.
This placemat has a very vintage feel. I actually boxed the bottom corners to make it stand up alone, without anything in the bag. I added the brown velvet ribbon and vintage broach, I love it!
This is truly a ray of sunshine little clutch. I pleated the white ribbon and and added the flower to the middle of the clutch.
I folded the place mats like envelopes, then I ripped out the top stitching to add the magnetic closure to each one.
These little clutches would be great for "date night". They hold the essentials, plus add a punch of color to any outfit!
I think they are stinking cute!

Here Comes Peter Cottontail!

It's that time! Time to start thinking about Easter decorating! Here is a decoration that I made that I would like to share with you....

These cute little bunnies!
The tall bunny is 9 1/2 inches tall
The medium bunny is 7 inches tall
And the small bunny is 6 inches tall
I made these cuties with 3/4 inch MDF board. I gave my assistant, aka, dad, the pattern of the bunnies and he cut them out. After cutting the shapes out, he painted the MDF with a chocolate brown paint.
I picked out the paper and embellishments that I wanted to use for the bunnies. Then, I traced and cut out the paper and used Mod Podge to put the paper on the bunnies. I then glued the bunny legs onto the bunny. Added the embellishments and that was it!
They really do look cute for an Easter decoration.

New Book Bags...

My weekend of family and friends has wound down and I am exhausted! So, before falling asleep, I thought I would show you three of the several bags I made when  I went to San Diego. These are used as book bags, and they work great!
These bags will hold 6 to 8 scrapbook or craft magazines that we all so love to look at when we are on a long drive! :)
The first bag is a really pretty sky blue with cream and light green.
I also made an attachable fabric flower that matches that bag that can be taken off and worn on a cute jean jacket!
The lining is made with a Heather Bailey fabric and I put a nice little pocket on the inside to hold your cell phone.
This rust red bag is fun too! The flower really adds a lot to the bag.
This lining is done in an Amy Butler fabric. LOVE IT~
This bag is my favorite of the three. I love the cherry blossoms that are embroidered on the fabric. Very spring.

The lining is this bag was made with Heather Bailey fabric too. I used the embroidered fabric for the pocket in this bag too.

These bags can be used for anything! I have a gal that uses her bag as a church bag. Another one for her work that she carries back and forth. Then, another gal uses her bag as a diaper bag...just enough room for a few diapers and a wet wipe container.

If interested, I have listed these three bags in my Etsy shop.

Happy Monday to all!

Such a busy time!

I know that it has been a bit quiet here on Crafty Girls...this week has been very busy and that business will continue through the weekend. You see, my youngest is going to be baptized tomorrow, and we have lots of family coming into town for the event.

I love this little guy.

I promise, next week I will have lots to show! Remember, I went out of town last week to do a bit of sewing, and I am so ready to show off some of the fun things that I made!

Happy weekend to all!

Easy Phone Cozy!

I have a girlfriend that does not sew much. She really wants to sew more. She recently made the comment to me, "Irene, I wish I could just sit and watch you sew for a day. That way, you could show me the little things in sewing." I love this friend very much...but I have to admit, if this particular friend sat and watched me sew...NOTHING would get sewn. We would laugh, laugh, laugh and then laugh again. This friend wants to learn how to make a fun phone cozy. So, I decided to show you and my friend how to make a super cute and super easy phone cozy.

First, start with two strips of fabric, both cut to 4.5 inches by 12 inches.
Because your phone cozy will be protecting your phone, I use both a fleece interfacing, and a light weight interfacing. Apply the fleece interfacing to the wrong side of outside fabric. Then, apply the light weight interfacing to the wrong side of the lining fabric.
Next, attached an elastic band to the center of one of the short ends of the outside fabric. Then sew on a button, approximately 2 inches down from the center of the opposite short side.
Place your two strips of fabrics right sides together and sew a half inch seam all the way around the cozy, making sure to leave a 3 to 4 inch opening for turning.
Before turning, make sure you clip your corners. Then, turn the fabric to the right side out through the opening. Once you turn the fabric out, iron the fabric. Then top stitch the two short ends of the cozy.
Now, fold the cozy in half, lining sides touching each other and pin your sides. Top stitch starting at the top of one side, working all the way around to the other top side.
There you have it. Done.
I made these cozyies up tonight. To make all 7, it took me 2 hours and 15 minutes. So, approximately 20 minutes a cozy. Not bad for when you need a quick gift!
